Custom Search Spotify Premium Users Now Get Free Hulu Subscription

Spotify is really turning the heat up against Apple Music. After offering free Spotify Premium to Galaxy S10 owners in the United States for six months, the music streaming company has announced today that it will be bundling a free Hulu subscription for its Spotify Premium subscribers in the United States.

The limited time offer will see Spotify offer the ad-supported plan of Hulu to its premium subscribers. Standalone, the ad-supported version of Hulu costs $5.99 a month.

While the deal sounds good, there are a few catches here. Spotify Premium subscribers will not be able to add premium channels to Hulu like HBO or Showtime. Secondly, the offer is only for subscribers who are on the $9.99/monthly plan and not for Family Plan subscribers.

Spotify already offers Hulu’s commercial plan to subscribers of its $4.99/month student plan along with the Showtime channel. If you are on that plan, stick to it as you are getting Showtime for free which is not the case here.

Spotify already offered a Spotify Premium + Hulu bundle for $12.99. If you are on that plan, Spotify will automatically switch you to this new $9.99 offer resulting in a $3 monthly saving.

You will have to manually activate Hulu from within your Spotify account. Just head over to the “Your Services” page and enable the Hulu option. If you were already paying for Hulu, you will need to cancel that subscription and then claim this offer from within Spotify.

The promotional offer runs out on June 10th, 2019 so make sure to activate your free Hulu subscription before that. While you won’t be able to sign up for the offer after June 10th, the free Hulu bundle will remain active for life once activated.

This is definitely an attractive offer from Spotify that will get a lot of folks to sign up for its service. The company has been using such lucrative offers since the last quarter of 2018 to attract new subscribers. The last such promotion saw Spotify offering free Google Home mini to its new subscribers which led to it gaining almost 7 million subscribers in just six weeks.
Our Take

It is clear that Spotify is using attractive marketing campaigns to gain new subscribers in its battle against Apple Music. While Apple Music was growing at a faster rate than Spotify up until Q3 2018, Spotify has now pulled ahead by throwing freebies with its premium subscription. It remains to be seen though as to how long the company can continue doing so.
